NY Execs Fund DiGiacinto's Bethlehem Controller Quest
All this does is make me more convinced that Meg Holland is the right choice.

You own views are appreciated, especially if they differ from mine. But remember, commenting is a privilege, not a right. I will delete personal attacks or off-topic remarks at my discretion. Comments that play into the tribalism that has consumed this nation will be declined. So will comments alleging voter fraud unless backed up by concrete evidence. If you attack someone personally, I expect you to identify yourself. I will delete criticisms of my comment policy, vulgarities, cut-and-paste jobs from other sources and any suggestion of violence towards anyone. I will also delete sweeping generalizations about mainstream parties or ideologies, i.e. identity politics. My decisions on these matters are made on a case by case basis, and may be affected by my mood that day, my access to the blog at the time the comment was made or other information that isn’t readily apparent.
I received a robocall for someone promoting this guy. I don't remember what exactly he was saying, but it was nothing impressive. For mass robocalling, one would have expected the quality to be better (or more professional).
ReplyDeleteNothing yet about the Easton raises. I'd like to see who you are endorsing.
ReplyDeleteAnon 11:20,
ReplyDeleteOf course, I'll be endorsing Panto, Bassil, Ruggles and Warner. I was prepared to endorse Brown but don't like his refusal to answer EU's questionnaire. I'll be doing those posts on Sunday and Monday.
A lot of stuff is flying on the county level, and as you can see, that has kept me quite busy.
I'll also be posting the magisterial races and Baratta's retention.
I hope you endorse my good friend Dan Corpora. Monohan is a mud slinger.
ReplyDeleteAnon 11:27, Dan's a very good guy who actually turned down an offer from Severson to run his campaigh. He also has a good judicial temperament. But I have not heard anytrhing about mudlinging from Monahan, and am surprised. Please tell me what you mean. If you'd prefer to go back channel, my addy is bohare5948@aol.com
ReplyDeleteYou should also endorse Ken Brown. I don't think he responded to those questions for other reasons not just because he didn't want to. I think there is more to it that we may not be aware of. HoC is a good man but i don't think he and Ken get along well. Ken can do alot of good for the city.
ReplyDeleteHoC implied as much.
ReplyDeleteMonohan insulted him several times at the NAACP candidates night. HoC can verify. He was there. He looked like Bertsch did at the state.
ReplyDeleteTwo things you don't want to do when campaigning in Easton.
1. Jab at a Corpora
2. Jab at a Panto
Monohan broke rule #1.
He really tried to belittle Dan but Dan never lost his cool. He stayed on message.
Bernie,
ReplyDeleteI suppose that DiGiacinto is just doing 24 hour reporting for the NYC Fundraiser he had on Thursday night. The $4,000 is just single contributions received that were $500 or more. I would imagine he received more than $4,000 in total.

ReplyDeleteController candidate wrong about budget
I received a campaign mailer from Meg Holland, Republican candidate for Bethlehem city controller, telling me how qualified she is for the job.
In the mailer she said the city budget is $121 million. That just seemed wrong. So I called the mayor's office, who directed me to the office of the business administrator. I asked the gentleman who answered the call what is the city budget? He told me it was $58 million.
Holland was off by $63 million. As a businessman in Bethlehem I sure don't want her handling my books. I am voting for Dave DiGiacinto. He is more qualified to do the job.
Frank Horwath
----------
In Mr. Horwath’s letter to the editor on November 3, 2007 he stated that the city budget of $121 million as reported in my campaign mailers was off by $63 million. The City of Bethlehem budget is $121 million, which I detail below.
Operating Budget (in millions)
General Fund 58.523
Water 18.000
Sewer 11.931
Golf 1.400
911 1.898
Total Operating Budget 91.752
Capital Budget (in millions
Non-utility 13.650
Water 4.392
Sewer 3.211
Community 6.930
Liquid Fuels 1.417
Total Capital Budget 29.600
Total City Budget = $121.352
Unfortunately Mr. Horwath was only informed of the General Fund budget. The Controller’s job is the “watchdog” of all city accounts, therefore, only considering the General Fund budget would be incorrect.
