Follow the Money: Who's Funding Norco Democratic Sleaze Campaign?

According to reports filed Friday with the elections office, the Northampton County Democratic Committee is the beneficiary of some very generous, and recent, contributions. I've discovered last-minute donations from the following:

Lamont McClure, $2,000, on October 24.
Lamont McClure, $5,000, on November 1.
Charles Dertinger, $2,500, on October 30.
Ronald Perin, $500, on October 30.

In the past few days, party coffers have filled with $10,000 for the dirty campaign that sleazy Severson is running against Peg Ferraro and Ron Angle. Now, this is just the money that's on the radar screen. The dirty politics against Angle alone is estimated at $40,000. But now we at least know that McClure and Dertinger are two of the guys buying the mud.

Ron Angle's opponent, John Maher, claims he single-handedly kept Wal-Mart out of the slate belt. But Perin, whose family owns the land slated for that Wal-Mart, is indirectly funding Maher's campaign.

  1. Peg Ferraro, $8,000.00 to the Republican State Committee to include Mark Schwartz on a negative mailer and no financial report from him. As Bernie says, OOPSIE!

  2. The last reporting cycle ended Oct. 22. This mailer, which I got in yesterday's mail, comes in the new reporting cycle. In other words, it's legit, unlike many of the mailers directed at Angle and Ferraro. Because Schwartz is obviously the beneficiary of an in-kind contribution, he will now have to file a report for this cycle. But he could not file a report on 10/22 for a mailer that did not go out until yesterday.

It is a negative, yet truthful, mailer. McClure and Branco are two of the jokers who did try to shove a bloated IT contract dowen taxpayer throats that was $1.8 million higher than the contract ultimately awarded. This just happened a month ago. I've blogged it quite a bit. McClure and Branco have to accept the consequences of their own stupidity.

And that's what happens. Negative and dirty campaigning begets more of the same. If you want to know who to blame, look in a mirror.

  3. And the same argument applies to the Party mail against Angle. It is all TRUE, and it didn't start until after 10/22.

  4. Though I supported the candidacy of Bruce Gilbert and Tim Cuevas to fill the Northampton County Council vacancies created by the resignation of members Mary Ensslin and Mike Corriere, a majority of sitting and newly elected council members appointed Lamont McClure and Tony Branco.

I am on record as opposing these two men who had lost their bid for county council in the previous general election.

I am also on record as opposing their yea vote endorsing the Sands BethWorks slot machine gambling casino in Bethlehem's South Side neighborhood on land contaminated from 140 years of operation by the Bethlehem Steel Corporation and in the Lehigh River flood plain.

On the plus side, I applaud McClure and Branco for voting with a majority of other council members in rejection of county executive John stoffa's nomination of Marta Gabriel Boulos as county administrator succeeding Jim Hickey.

I also applaud McClure and Branco for voting - again with the majority of council members - against the TIF (Tax Encrement Financing) of a development in Lower Nazareth Township.

Finally, I applaud McClure and Branco for their skepticism against the proposed bi-county health bureau(cracy), and dearly hope that if the issue ever reaches Northampton County council for a vote, that body will soundly defeat it.
