Don Cunningham to endorse Supreme Court Candidate Seamus McCaffrey

Lehigh County Executive Don Cunningham has screwed up. His office just sent me a news release. Bossman Long will probably make Cunnigham run laps around the courthouse or something.

Today, at 3:00 PM, Cunningham will hold a news conference on the courthouse steps to endorse PA Supreme Court Candidate Judge Seamus McCaffrey. The Judge will be present and available for questions. I'd love to be there, but that depends on my day job.

Seamus, Céad Míle Fáilte!

  2. Wow! I'll try to be there. $50 is a lot of dough, but I sure have lots of questions for some of the folks on that list.

  3. am i reading what's on his site correctly, he is not a lawyer? has there ever been a justice on the supreme court before who was not a lawyer? it seems the philly machine is so entrenched, either no one is any longer bashful to support or secure enough to stand up against it.

  4. Michael, I'll be doing a post about Seamus McCaffrey. He's a lawyer. He is the first Philadelphioa police officer to have gone thru law school while on the force.

  5. Bernie -

I would like to attend but don't have $50 to pay my bills with, let along contribute to those who already have tons of money.

If you're going, perhaps you could ask Lisa why she hasn't responded to my e-mail yet. I know she's read it...

  7. Yeh! The holy war has started; bring in the police state!

How much does all this cost?
Why is it costing so much?
    I think freedom is cheaper!

    It's the law!

    Screw Your Freedoms
    Civil Liberty; who needs them!

    It was once desired to be free;
    now we need police everywhere!

Why are Americans the worst problem
    solvers of the world?

  8. Anon 1:21,

This post is not about needing cops everywhere or about a police state. It's about a guy running for the state supreme court. Stop spamming this blog.

I thought judges where suppose to be impartial! Get rid of the Judge System; replace them with all juries. Jury members can dismiss a law if they find it unreasonable, we can spread the high cost in maintaing a judge among it citizens - it's better at check and balances; something very must needed in todays system.

Having over two million people in jail in a America tells you this.

I'll stop "what you call spamming" when you stop screwing with my generations way of life!

  10. Anon 10:39,

    (1) I won't delete this bc it is marginally relevant.

    (2) An "all jury system" would weaken the judicial branch to the point where it will no longer present a meaningful check and balance on abuses by the legislature and executive branch. The final result will be a tyranny, the very police state of which you now complain.

  11. I disagree with you Bernie:
I'm not even sure how you would even begin to conceptualize such a thing!

    Charlie Chaplain - Amazing Speech

For those who can't view the video:

This was written and performed as the final scene in his first “talkie” film, called “The Dictator”. Of course, he was skewering Hitler and Mussolini in the film, but at the end, he turns to the audience and gets serious, and makes a speech that is strangely relevant almost 60 years later…
