Norco Elections Commission Chair: Report "Pure Partisan Politics"

A citizens' advisory panel report of Northampton County's election woes was released to the public on Tuesday. It makes fifteen recommendations, and contains an entire page of notes devoted to the erratic behavior of Registrar, Debbie DePaul.

Express Times reporter Sarah Cassi tells us this task force report has come under attack.

Northampton County Elections Commission Chair Walter R. Garvin - "pure partisan politics."

Northampton County Councilman and Democratic committeeman Charles Dertinger - "flies in the face of an independent elections office."

HRH DePaul - ""I'm sure there are Republicans that want me to leave."

The author of this report, Russ Shade, is a Democrat. So is Dick Benner, a former voting registrar who also served on this committee. Greta Browne? She ran for Congress, twice, as a Green party candidate. Republican Peg Ferarro resigned from the task force long before it got down to the dirty work of preparing a summary.

That leaves panel member L. Jack Bradt. He's so Republican he has elephants on his pajamas, but he was also the task force member kindest to DePaul.

So let's do the math. Two Democrats, one Republican and one Green are accused of producing a highly partisan report designed to drive HRH DePaul from office.

Partisan politics? I'll tell you about that next time.

  1. I must say when I read the Walter Garvin comment I had the giggles. I suppose 99 percent of you never heard the 1 hour radio show that Wally G... aka Walter Garvin had on am radio station brand X on wednesdays from 4 till 5 pm a year ago at this time. It was called Checks and Balances with Wally G. Well no one knew who Wally G was for a while. It was the most partisan show I ever heard. Even worse than Flush Limbaugh. A full hour of reading a diatrab from a script and no calls were allowed. It was Hate Bush and hate anything republican. Baby.. if you didn't hear it its impossible to describe. After a while though news of who Wally G really was oozed out. It was our own loveable Walter Garvin. Yes the same guy who is on the elections committee in a job that I thought people were supposed to be non partisan. Bernie... did you ever hear that show? Him of all people was complaining about partisan politics.... OY VEH !!!!!!!!!

  4. Maddy,

Well, I can't wait to tell you our nonpolitical elections commission chair, Wally G.

But alas, it may have to wait until Monday because another story popped up. I'll try to address it, but it may have to wait until Monday bc of something that happened tonight to your favorite pol, Ron Angle.

  7. RON ANGLE STORY:
Angle has been accused of picking up properties cheaply at the expense of senior citizens.
Angle was forced by the court to repay $10,000 to the court-appointed guardian of Donald Snyder. Snyder was found locked in his feces strewn apartment. Angle had cashed the man's $15,000 in certificates of deposit, claiming $6,500 was to repay a debt Snyder owed him and that the other
    $8,500 was a gift.
A judge ruled that Angle was not entitled to any damages after an angry tenant pushed him down a flight of stairs, breaking his leg.

  8. Anon 11:06,

This is no Ron Angle story. It is propoganda.

    1) I read thru the file of that Donald Snyder case. Angle was never ordered by any court to do anything. There are two sides to that story. I'm not going into details. Suffice it to say that, if your version were remotely true, Angle would have been charged criminally. And this has nothing to do with the elections report now, does it? Looks like a preemptiove strike against a story I'm working on right now. I had a long discussion w/ someone and decided against reporting a factual detail where there were criminal charges, and a conviction. And it involves someone in that Masonic hall tonight. Shall I publish them?

    2) You're right. An angry tenant pushed Angle down a flight of steps many years ago, breaking Angle's leg. That person was prosecuted and convicted. Angle got nowhere on his claim for damages civilly, but that's the way things work. But given your statement of the facts, you seem to think it is ok for someone to resort to physical violence when he's angry. It sounds like someone at that Masonic hall. Shall I publish?

  11. I saw Ms DePaul on WFMZ, and I was shocked at how unprofessional she appeared, in dress, and in manner.
Honest to God, she made me think of what my Barbie Doll would have looked like all grown up after smoking 6 packs a day, and vacationing with Britney Spears.
How could she go on Television looking like that? Is she so poorly paid that she can't afford a dentist? I'm self conscious about my body, but for someone so defensive of her job performance, I think she should ask Joe Long for money for an image consultant instead of an Attorney. She would definitely be a good candidate for "A Makeover Story", or "what not to wear!" Okay, this is my feeble attempt at humor. I can't keep up with the guys!

  12. Anon 2:05,

I have no problem w/ someone who wants to criticize or hate Angle. But the topic of this post is the elections report, not Ron. Yet someone anonymously slams him in an unrelated post over ancient history, and can't even get the facts right.

To the people who hide behind a mask of anonymity to launch a personal attack against others, I say this - people who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

  13. Aphrodite,

Congrats again on your new arrival. Hope all is well with you and your husband.

I did not see the broadcast you mention. But I have to tell you that HRH DePaul is an extremely attractive woman who presents herself very well. She always has been dressed professionally whenever I've seen her. If she looks bad on TV, it's probably the TV, not her.
