McClure Sides With Banks and Lawyers Over Homeowners

Norco Councilman Lamont McClure fills his campaign coffers with lots of contributions from big city lawyers. That's apparent from campaign finance reports filed in his losing bid last year and in his most recent quest.

Last night, he sided with those big city lawyers over property owners facing foreclosures.

When a foreclosing attorney wants to sell your home out from under you, he must first give the sheriff's office a deposit so the sale can be published in local papers. Increasing advertising costs, however, have forced the county to try and collect extra costs from foreclosing attorneys.

Last night, council adopted a straightforward resolution, increasing the deposit by a foreclosing attorney to $2,500. Requiring this sum, in advance, might make a foreclosing attorney think twice about whether he really wants to take someone's home.

McClure was the sole person on council who refused to support this resolution. Looks like he didn't want to offend his real constituents, the people who give him money.

  1. a side note if i may, the Morning Call just increased greatly the font size on their legal notices, but not their other classified ads. i find it curious, first change in 45 years i've been reading it, are they afraid of on coming ramifications from rash of foreclosures? are they taking advantage of captured audience and create reason to charge more for ads?

  2. Well at least he didn't vote for that single bid 15 million dollar five year prison health care contract like Ron "fiscal lapdog" Angle did.

  4. Actually, general dislike for fee increases of any kind. Usually, a no vote on them.

  5. Well Lamont, this was not a fee increase to the taxpayer. It was instead directed your big city lawyer-contributors, who try to take homes from taxpayers. Nice to know who you really work for. I hope people remember that when they vote.
