Northampton County Employees Get Shafted ... Again

When the dust finally settles around the recent $100 thousand embezzlement sandstorm swirling in the criminal division, we'll learn that only one employee was involved. Until then, remaining employees are under a magnifying glass. These are hardworking employees. They care about their jobs. One broke out in tears several months ago when she was able to find money to reimburse a crime victim after several years. Like you, they're decent people.

This is where Mary Ensslin, Director of Court Services, enters the fray. On Monday, she told office employees, "We'll work through this. I want you to know I'm there for you. Come to me anytime you have a problem."

Sounds like a caring boss, huh? That same day, Lehigh Valley Hospital announced that Mary had jumped ship for a job with them.

Nice guys always finish last. Ask the folks who work in the criminal division.

They're holding the bag, and it's empty.

She betrayed voters when she forfeited her Council job for a job with the county. So it's no surprise that she'd also betray the people who worked under her.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary.
How does your garden grow.
"I sell out to the highest bidder."
"That's something you ought to know."

  1. Isn't there a sayig that goes something like even rats abandon ship when it sinks...

I think that there is more ugly fallout to come at the county and the courthouse. I don't know if I would want to continue to work their either.

I think that despite Mr. Stoffa's good intentions to turn the county around, he is going to have to deal with many more problems that he did not create but has to fix. He may have a very negative legacy.

To live in the Lehgih Valley anymore, a $55,000 a year salary is not alot of money compared to the salareis made by the out-of staters moving in and those who commute out of state. I don't blame her for going for more money. But her timing is rather convenient...and she should not have made a promise to her employees that she had no intention og keeping. But maybe things will be better once she leaves.

  2. Stoffa is struggling like hell to hold on to his cabinet folks.

  3. Bernie, I recall an early August post "But it appears that Mary T. Ensslin is more concerned with Mary T. Ensslin than with county history or employees. It makes sense. She worked for Toomey a few years, then jumped ship to work for Santorum a few years, and is currently aboard the U.S.S. Stoffa. She'll jump ship again when ..."

While your final prediction didn't quite pan out the way you thought, I can see that you haven't discarded that crystal ball I conned you into buying (from the Johnson Smith catalog) in 3rd grade.

Drop it off for a tune-up; it appears that it just needs a subtle gonzo adjustment.

I guess this also means you just screwed yourself out of your post on that commission she appointed you to. I know how disappointed you must be.

(I still have that catalog; can I interest you into a Whoopee cushion?)

  4. Whethervain,

Whoopee cushions? I don't need no stinkin' whopee cushions.

My prediction was that Mary would eventually run for county exec. I think that is still her goal. She can go to LVH, wait for Council to increase the salary, and then announce her candidacy and claim she has executive experience.

She'll do that unless something better comes along.

With Mary, it's all about Mary.

  6. LVDem, He lost Boscola, has no hatchet man, and now Ensslin bolts in the middle of a scandal. But government runs better without the Marys of this world.

  7. Mr. Stoffa didn't lose Mr. Boscola, from what I gatherd from our conversations about the bridge, he didn't like the way he was running public works...you know trying to tear down historic brdiges...but then again maybe that was the problem, Boscola wasn't running PW, it seems more like those under him ,like bridge superintendentTom Kohler, seemed more in charge and making stupid decisions like giving interviews about a tearing down a historic bridge that your new boss didn't know about...

  8. A Medical School is about the one millionth least thing we need. We've got enough messes at LVH and St. Lukes Animal Labs.
