Also, Planners had nothing to do with the decision to spend $30 million plus on a garage and new city hall. Thank the mayor for that. If you want an eye-opening education go request the budget presentation on the garage project. Not pretty.

Anon @ 7:50 am...Ah, the circle. A whole book could be written. We are overdue for a reformation of traffic flow in the 4 sq block area around Centre Square. My fear is who will be charged with that task. What should be a purely pedestrian oriented venue (with disciplined auto access) has been sacrificed to the movement of cars and the city suffers for it.

Anon @ 8:17 am...funny!

Anon @ 10:32 am...You say that the "City Council listened to their constituents and rightly so"

If the option to keep the money in a PBD to fund downtown had been made how would that have effected their opinions? This is not theory I am talking about but proven fact. It was done in Aspen Colorado (where curb parking was already free) against the will of the merchants and was wildly successful - those same merchants now laud the program as a godsend.

Anon @ 12:44 pm...If you don't want to subsidize parking their should have been a groundswell against building this new garage - and another one already being proposed by this mayor for N 4th Street. They will be subsidized by the taxpayer because they are being built with free money (grants) and no provision of information on future operating costs vs projected revenue, which will all fall on us.

Anon @ 3:41 pm...You lost me, but have a nice day!

Personal Comment...Sure are a lot of people named Anonymous in this LV. Is the parking situation really so controversial that names can't be used? Hmmm.

DRL

Dennis R. I am a monthly parker in the garage and I know for a fact that when the garage is full the attendant stands at the entrance and gives detailed map with directions to the new garage. Maybe they grabbed the first spot they found and with the new parking app for the downtown they can add the time to the meter. I love it. It works great and I don't get anymore tickets if I park on the street. As for the rest of your column I am a resident and I am glad the city is making money on parking because that has kept my taxes level. Parking meters are a user fee and should not be subsidized by the public. For far too long the residents subsidized the garage when it wasn't used for its fist 30 years of life.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9299655.post-12405784291783098682015-08-21T10:32:45.397-04:002015-08-21T10:32:45.397-04:00Dennis just reiterated everything found in any par...Dennis just reiterated everything found in any parking study including the most recent study completed by the city's consultant when the new parking plan was put into affect. They said the same thing but downtown merchants and residents balked and City Council listened to their constituents and rightly so. At the public hearings the decision was made that in light of the state pulling its money from the Main Street program and the lack of support of the Neighborhood Improvement Zone like other cities have, council raised meters to $1.00 and the additional money, I believe was around $400,000 was used to provide a grant for the three programs in the downtown -- Main Street, Ambassadors and the Farmers Market. And although the parking plan in Easton isn't perfect form a consultant's point of view the plan seems to be working better and I love the garage rate of a flat $1.00 after 5PM. Lastly, I would venture to say, but have not made an evaluation, that the Gov Wolf lot while it may be free, it is used mostly by the vendors. Lastly, parking garage are really expensive to build so the users should pay for their convenience and not the general taxpayers who own property in Easton.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9299655.post-51027820026472228762015-08-21T08:17:28.686-04:002015-08-21T08:17:28.686-04:00Please don't confuse us with the facts, Dennis...Please don't confuse us with the facts, Dennis.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9299655.post-19838752544016246522015-08-21T07:50:48.538-04:002015-08-21T07:50:48.538-04:00Isn't it time to pay for (another) study on ho...Isn't it time to pay for (another) study on how to navigate the circle?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9299655.post-56021251706881834802015-08-21T01:25:35.543-04:002015-08-21T01:25:35.543-04:00Actually people prefer to park on the street than ...Actually people prefer to park on the street than in parking decks.
