Pa 07 Congressional Race Attracts Two New Candidates

Two new candidates - Aiden Alexander Gonzales and Michael Ramon Granados, Jr., - have filed Statements of Candidacy in the crowded race for Pa. 7's Congressional seat. That district includes Lehigh, Northampton and a portion of Carbon County.

Gonzales is a Democrat while Granados is an independent.

Incumbent Ryan Mackenzie, a Republican, has no primary challengers. But the number of Democrats who want to go to Washington now stands at six. Other Democrats are Ryan Croswell, Lamont McClure, Carol Obando-Derstine, Robert Brooks and Mark Pinsley.

Gonzalez already has a website that sticks to bread-and-butter issues like jobs, the economy, housing and healthcare. He supports the American Health Act, which places all US citizens in a single-payer system. He also wants to incentivize real estate development (can you say tax breaks) and make it more difficult for foreign buyers to purchase real estate.

According to their Statements of Candidacy, Gonzales lives in Bethlehem's Woodmont Mews Apartment complex while Granados lives in the Stata West apartments in downtown Allentown.

    1. Quite a view with you head in the sand and ignoring reality.

  2. A McClure zealot, much like yourself, told me, early last year that McClure was announcing early to, "clear the field" of primary opponents. You will probably dismiss them as lightweights as you have started to already, but your boy is not the odds-on favorite. Good thing he has a county job.

  4. It's a free for all! They know Lamont is week, Shapiro backed a bad horse, so it's anyone's guess who comes out of this blood bath LOL!

  5. Carol “I’m Pissed” Obando-Derstine refuses to drop out after being pressured by Gov. Shapiro in favor of Bob “Crooksy” Brooks. As a reward, and a message to her for her bravery, think “Luca Brazil sleeps with the fishes”, these two clowns show up.

    1. No this isn’t a movie, there wasn’t some deal done behind closed doors. How exactly does him getting into the race help or hurt anyone over another? Maybe accept that the candidate you’re backing isn’t that great just like the rest of the candidates in this field

  6. Dirty Tricks by Crooksy Brooks Team. Didn’t Crooksy rip his Grandma off or something ?

  7. Read the Morning Call piece on this to see who is backing these pretenders. If it wasn't so sad it would be funny.

  8. This is all Wild’s fault. She screwed up the race because she was pissed at Lamont. Let the dopes at the DCCwhatever encourage the Republican Crosswell to move here. She recruits Carol. The least charismatic candidate she could find, and then the Guv has the IFAA endorsement for Prez dangled in front of him, and we get Bobby Brooks. Now we get Aiden Gonzalez. To summarize Wild being mad at Lamont leads to Crosswell, Carol, Brooks and now Aiden. (Apologies to Mark Pinsley, but nobody seems to care about him.)

    1. Pretty telling that all of the men have their last name mentioned while you just say "Carol".

    2. 10:27 -- Yes, "Carol" is a bit on the familiar side. She should really be referred to by her initials: COD - Crappy Ol' Democrat.

    3. The very first sentence mentions “Lamont”. Your brain is infected with the woke mind virus lol.

  9. Lamont McClure has my vote. Always helps people regardless of politics and has a big heart for us older folks.

    1. Unfortunately his heart isn’t in it, and he expected he’d just be given the primary. Last quarter he raised under 30k (no his loan doesn’t count) and we will see what the final quarter number is on the 15th. None of the campaigns have put out numbers to my knowledge which would imply no one had a particularly strong quarter that they want to flex. At this point I’m thinking it’s mainly a race between Carol and Bob. If Bob gets enough money to message his endorsement from Shaprio he wins. If Carol can get the money to message her endorsments from Wild and Casey AND there’s enough of the vote split between Bob Ryan and Lamont Carol will win. That’s it that’s what this race is now end of story.

    2. Why don’t you ask the remaining Assistant DAs who worked under Houck the second half of 2023 when there were about 12 attorney vacancies how much he helped them. Refused to act on every thing Houck asked on behalf of those attorneys, all because he’s friends with Morganelli, who apparently grew to despise Houck despite Houck being his First Assistant for over a decade. I’ve heard similar stories about other departments.

    3. 10:13am If that is Carol’s plan to message a Wild/Casey endorsement she should ask Cozze how that worked out for her in the last primary election cycle? Brooks pushing out a Shapiro endorsement makes sense Josh is actually popular and currently in office. Wild has become a laughing stock in the Lehigh Valley and apparently in DC too, since Carol can’t raise the money they both thought she could. McClure will most likely pull through while people on this blog tend to attack him because they are County Employees or Politicos he does have the most name recognition and is popular himself. His endorsement clearly outweighed Wild’s in the primary for Norco nominee for County Executive.

  10. McClure has the name recognition, he'll eventually be the nominee its really that simple. The rest of the field is noise and theater meant to squeeze some campaign funds out of McClure for the general. Ryan Mackenzie will be sent packing as he has made the same mistake Susan Wild did and just played party politics instead of representing a very evenly divided district.

    1. Ah no, Mackenzie is a centrist who has voted against Trump, most recently with the unaffordable care act subsidies.

    2. Go to Main Street Easton or Bethlehem, ask them if they know any of these people running in the primary. You won’t get many that know any of them let alone who their county executive is/just was. Even Primary voters won’t be fully invested or know who is running until the two weeks leading up to the election. And if you don’t have money to talk to them between now and then you won’t win. McClure is not going to win this race

  13. Per her painful book on the 2024 campaign, Kamala passed up Shapiro for VP because he was Jewish. Now, Shapiro is passing up Obando-Derstine because she's too DEI. Go figure.

  14. COD introduced herself to the public by saying, “I’m pissed.”
    Crude and stupid.

  15. Glad there’s options. McClure wasn’t good for the County or its employees. Definitely a no for him.

  16. These two new names do not have a chance. They are just getting their names out there. Meanwhile, Lament had to loan his campaign $200,000 a few months ago. Sign of a dying campaign. Boob Borks for the win in May.
