What The Morning Call Omitted From the Ruckus Story

The Morning Call reports, in a well-written story, that Ruckus Brewing is buying Neuweiler Brewery. Because the property is located located in Allentown's Neighborhood Improvement Zone (NIZ), Ruckus will be able to use state and City taxes for improvements. But there's one important detail missing. Allow me to fill in the blank.

Ruckus is represented by none other than Mike Fleck, who is campaign consultant to Mayor Edwin Pawlowski, Council Prez Julio Guridy and Council member Cynthia Mota. You see, in addition to running political campaigns, Fleck works out business deals with the very politicians he helps elect.

He gets them on the front end and the back end.

This kind of business arrangement has trouble written all over it.

  1. Completely untrue! If it was O'Hare would share why he knows this to be true. But he does not. Anyone else wonder why?

  6. Someone needs to go to State Ethics Commission and fihd out if their are violation of State Law if Mayr is involved by checking his phone calls. Donovan in his campaign for Mayor should request all mayors phone calls, including his cell to find out if he has violated ethics laws.

  9. I wonder what the price tag is on rehabilitating this property. Seems to me the site is no longer viable as a brewery unless it is completely rebuilt. I am always in favor of more beer - but this is another example of cronyism being used to snap up taxpayer dollars for personal profit.

It's not illegal, as far as we know, but it sure stinks.

  10. Just to think tens of millions of dollars of state revenue that would have gone to Harrisburg to pay for things like state police, education, etc.

...is now going to pay to rehab a building that should have been torn down 30 years ago for a micro-brewery. Not a manufacturing facility that requires skilled employees or a headquarters with high paying jobs.

    But a brewery.

And just to think we are considering mini-NIZ for all the third class cities.

I'm sure it's going to work out great.

How about Fleck himself. He confirmed it months ago.

Another article I was not able to read was about newspaper subscription declines, go figure...

  14. Wow! It's so sad to see a once proud newspaper reduced to verbatim reciting of press releases with no in depth research and reporting. I don't even walk to the store on Saturdays to buy the paper anymore.

  15. It's a good story, but I think the Fleck connection should be noted.
