State Reps Emrick and Hahn Need More Transparency

Pennsylvania's Election Code (25 P.S. Section 3251) requires candidates for statewide office to file their campaign finance reports both with the State Bureau of Elections and in the elections office in the county where they reside. Thus, it was no surprise yesterday to see pre-primary reports filed by State Reps. Steve Samuelson ($0 in contributions), Bob Freeman ($0 in contributions) and Julie Harhart.($0 in contributions). Cindy Miller, who is running in the 183rd legislative district  to succeed Harhart, did file a copy of her campaign finance report in Northampton County, too. Though these are often called "courtesy" copies, they must be filed in the County where candidates live.

Zach Mako, who is running against Miler in the 183rd, failed to file a courtesy copy in Northampton County, where he happens to live.

Since he's a newbie and he did file electronically with the state, his rookie error is understandable. The public is still able to follow the money.

That's not the case with State Reps. Marcia Hahn and Joe Emrick, both of whom live in this County. Neither bothered filing electronic reports because they don't want you to know what they're doing .... like backing Mako. They were banking on you finding out after the election.

But guess what? They also failed to file copies of the report in the County office, completely thumbing their noses at the transparency required by The Elections Code.

The only way you could see their reports is by travelling to Harrisburg.

I realize these back benchers are in Harrisburg primarily to build their pensions at collect their per diems, but they should follow the law.

The elections office has been notified of this attempt to keep the public in the dark, and has notified the offending state representatives to start following the laws they impose on everyone else.

Marcia Hahn is doing a good job in Harrisburg.

Get on your bike and head to Harrisburg. You could use losing a few pounds.

"Back benchers" a perfect description of these 2 so-called reps- especially Joe Emrick.

Joe " Mr. Arrogant Ego" Emrick is a lot more able to be beat with a good decent opponent on either side.
This douche has an attitude and is never around. He is a bottom feeder and will go down the drain in an election like Gruppo did, another one who thought he was unbeatable.
Emerick couldn't hold Grucela's jock strap.

And Marcia Hahn is just a faint shadow of Craig Dally, unable to stand on her own two feet. More like an after-thought.

Ditto to the above comments.
Emrick sucks!

That would be like visiting a candy store to me. Believe me, those people could use a lot more scrutiny than they receive. Their arrogance and detachment from the community they are supposed to serve is disgusting. I am nauseated at their attempt to shield their campaign finances from public scrutiny. I am even more disgusted that Democrats are so weak in Northampton County that they were unable to find someone to challenge either of these faux public servants.

Most state house and senate districts are so gerrymandered any challenger would be wasting their time and money.

Emrick is being challenged by a write-in Democrat. Need the eastern Slate Belt and Nazareth areas to get behind this candidate and help him get on the ballot in November. Joe { Emrick } must GO!

Who is contributing to Emrick's coffers? Who owns him? He is but a pawn of the R establishment in Harrisburg. Time for us the show him the door along with his pal Marsha. Two do nothings who do nothing for the areas they represent. School funding be damned..right Joe/Marsha? Both of you are pathetic.

So don't you think it would be a good idea to tell us who this person is? I already voted, and had I known there was a write-in candidate, I would have voted for this person. This is where Muncy and other Dem party types are complete morons. Keep your secrets and lose elections.

David Mattei is now actively seeking Democratic party voter support as a write in candidate. He is a former NJ State trooper and currently an insurance agent in the area. Timing is what it is. Blame as you wish but at least there is now a valid option in the 137th.

It would have been nice to have known that before I voted. Also, he really should contact me instead of playing secret. BOHare5948@aol.com

I will ask him to contact you..

Emrick being funded by out of state dirt haulers. Valley Industrial Properties the company of record hauling and dumping NJ/NY harbor dredgings in water filled quarry in E. Bangor. Hundreds of trucks weekly enter property and dump in the quarry with virtually no DEP monitoring of that body of water. joe emrick is no friend of environmentalists in the Slate Belt area.

I bet financials show he is being given monetary support by one Michael Ciccone..who owns Valley industrial Properties.
