I believe that Montgomery County uses the same property record software as Northampton County, yet the Montgomery County implementation provides much more information--including ownership history. The tools are available for Northampton; they're just not being fully utilized.

**********

i AGREE, THE ncpub.org website is usually inaccessible to a person who wants to look up comparable properties, or wants to research a potential property. Let's face the real estate agents can't get all the info correct all of the time, and if the records are incorrect how do you fix them ? Go to court like Bob Rudas did ?

**********

You have to love the trails of litter on I-78 and Route 22 that lead to the renaissance downtown! When was the last time you saw a PennDOT litter crew working the roadways? Been a while, hasn't it.

**********

I've never cared before, until I had to pay. Do you have any idea how it much it costs to deliver soap and deodorant, or a card to an inmate at NCP? Or make a call, when the inmate calls you? Who collects the fees; are they recorded? Why not? Now N.C. is on line for prisoner candy bars and soap, and the price to supply is robbery. Who gets the Vigorish?

Bernie:
Great job on the elections.

G. John Bryant, Jr.

Blogger's Reply: Thanks, John. I did a poor job covering the Senate race, but tried to do a good job covering the contested state house races in the LV.

From a Facebook post by Jim Reinhart 4/27/16....So today at work we look out the window to see two Nazareth Borough workers removing a monument and flag pole at the corner of Spruce and Belvidere Streets. To our disbelief they did not take the American flag down before removing the pole. Thus they dragged the pole along the ground to their truck. Then set the flag and pole on the ground. THEN removed the flag. I had to go out to just inform the workers that now the flag MUST be destroyed PROPERLY. I felt that this was necessary since they didn't appear to know flag etiquette. The worker I spoke to was only saying that they were taking it to the Legion. I asked if they would tell they Legion that the flag touched the ground. He said they would. I asked then if he knowingly let the flag touch the ground and he did. This infuriated me and said I would call his supervisor. I was told to and "good luck". As I walked away I did swear but not at him. He said he was going to call the cops. Go ahead and I also said to call his supervisor. He then told me to walk away. I called the public works office with no answer. Then I called the main Borough number and talked to the lady there. She didn't seem to understand the impact this had on me. She would pass along my information to the supervisor. Guess what? Turns out the guy I talked to is the supervisor. What a great example he is. All I know is his name is Bob. Then I wanted to talk to the mayor but I remembered he was just arrested for stealing money from the fire department. Have to love working in Nazareth. My passion for the flag comes from my grandfather, father, uncles and friends that have fought for my freedom. No matter what, NO ONE has a right to desecrate the American flag. I will not stand by quietly when I see this.
Blogger's Reply: These allegations were strongly denied at the Borough Council meeting, not by Public Works but a WWII vet named Frank Adams. I did not hear from Public Works and left before the meeting was over. Apparently, a flag did touch the ground. Borough workers claim it was accidentally, while Reinhart says it was intentional..

Unless Donald Trump is the Republican Party nominee, I can't see any possibility of a Cruz or Kasich defeating Hillary Clinton. If anyone reading does, please explain.

In a General Election, we'll need to factor in Independents, unattached (like me), plus a huge loss of votes from rabid , disappointed Trump supporters. Consider, too, a recent poll showing 46% of Bernie Sanders voters who claim they will feel cheated by his Primary loss and then vote for Trump over Hillary.

Understanding the media is heavily biased toward the Democratic Party, the Republican Party leadership is a group of delusional fools, how in the world could a Cruz, Kasich , or some last-minute alternative draw more votes than Trump?

The local Express-Times newspaper reported a story about a City Council member being assaulted by the member's spouse. They also reported the victim's name. I find this reprehensible. The newspaper generally does not post names of domestic violence victims, but in this case they choose to do it. This is horrible. Just because one is an elected public official, they should still get the right to privacy when it comes to an issue like this. I pray that the City Council member is okay after this attack.

Blogger's Reply: The victim herself called attention to the issue, so this is an unfair criticism.

Ever since Anne Werkheiser Shoe Store closed, if it wasn't for Holy Family Gymnasium, Paul's Army Navy store, and Pott's Doggies, I would not have a reason to go to Nazareth. I won't even step foot into Gracedale. The Mayor of Nazareth and Council should be proud of what they created. I hope the Sticker Gang makes stickers for the Mayor and Council.

Blogger's Note: Let me give you some good reasons to go to Nazareth, aside from the great businesses you mentioned. 1. Pizza Joe - Perhaps the best Italian food in the Lehigh Valley at reasonable prices in a family atmosphere. 2. Hana Sushi. - The best sushi you will find in this area, according to the experts. 3. Rios - Magnificent Brazilian steakhouse, where the meat melts in your mouth. 4. Rice 'n Beans - great Latin cuisine and a fusion of American cuisine. 5. Nazareth Diner - perhaps the best diner food in this area, rivaled only by the nearby 248 Diner. 6. Nazareth Ace Hardware - reasonably priced with a personal touch. 7. Lynn's Florist. - She is a flower herself. She is that kindhearted. 8. The Pie Shop. - This is one of he stores Varone touts as coming to main and she can giver herself credit for that, but it has always been in Nazareth and is great. 9. Nazareth Music Store.- This has everything a budding musician needs and even offers lessons. There's lots of great places in Nazareth already.

Nazareth is a great place. Its government sucks, and i doubt very much that many more businesses will be moving in with a Mayor who is an admitted thief and council members who meddle in police business, making the borough a laughing stock.

There is absolutely no possible way that any person who believes in and supports Bernie Sanders could ever, ever, ever, cast a vote for Trump. None. It would be like a Jew voting for the Nazi party, or the black community supporting the KKK.

Trump supporters are going to be sad little children when Hillary makes an electoral sweep that makes it look like the lying, bloated Mr. Orange look like he never even ran for office.

Sorry, angry old white men. You are not relevant here anymore.

Fred:

I agree that it will be difficult at this point to deny Trump the nomination. Those that are supporting him (rabidly as you say) are asking the Republican party and the nation to make three huge (or is it "uuuuuge") bets.

One - That Trump can beat Hillary in November, keep the Senate in Republican hands and spare the country from the Supreme Court nominations she will make. Trump says he can compete in Blue sates. I don't see it any where on the map and foresee an electoral college landslide for Hillary. Trump has gotten 10 million primary votes so far and Hillary has gotten 12 million plus. It will take 65 to 70 million votes to win in November and I don't see where Trump gets that total since he is upside down by big margins with women, Hispanics and Blacks. There is no credible polling that says he can make a dent in any of the blue states and, in fact, will put many reliable red states in play (think Georgia and Utah for example).

Two - That Trump actually means what he is now saying (which is most cases is the complete opposite of positions he has taken as short as a week ago). And will Trump be able, within the Constitution, to do what he promised. Or will we see more success stories like his foray into Atlantic City or Trump University?

Three - That Trump has the knowledge, temperament and skills to lead the United States in foreign policy and serve as Commander In Chief. This last item is a bet I'm not willing to take. I view Trump as a bombastic, uninformed buffoon when it comes to this critical area of being President. And for that reason alone I can not vote to give him control of the United States military and our nuclear arsenal.

Fred - That's three big bets and all of them are bad ones.

Agree. Entering Pa at the Easton tolls and immediately the litter is visible. Why does NJ care and Pa not? Who knows. The litter at I-78 at Hellertown, Summit Lawn and Emmaus exits disgusting. What kind of message does this send to prospective businesses considering relocating?

Great list of Nazareth businesses that make the community a gem despite the wackadoodle world of some elected municipal officials, public workers, and police. And after you visit any of those fine establishments, you can end your Nazareth dining or shopping with delicious ice cream at Emily's. When they moved from 248/191 intersection to current location on Main St., they added to the borough's ambience.

Trump has praised single-payer government health care and has called health care a fundamental responsibility of government. He's advocated for higher taxes on the wealthy. He's touted the importance of women's health services provided by Planned Parenthood. He's called for a crackdown on illegal immigration to stop its harm on American workers, a position shared by Bernie Sanders and long advocated by civil rights icon, Barbara Jordan. Trump is financing his own campaign. He's spent $5.38 per vote, thus far. Bernie Sanders is not taking big money, but has raised $186 million and outspent Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump since January. He's spent over $22 per vote. Hillary is around $17. There's a lot to like about Trump for Bernie Sanders adherents. Realistically, Hillary wins in a walk. If Trump shocks the world, however, the novelty will wear off quickly. He'll not get a thing accomplished. And that's probably a good thing. The system is built to have sand thrown in its gears from time to time, especially when there's no consensus on critical issues. Obamacare was passed on a strictly partisan vote. The system recoiled and slammed the brakes on. Obama hasn't had a legislative success since. The system works. It's a beautiful thing. We should all be thankful to live here, regardless of our political leanings.

Trump has largely self-financed for the primary due to the tremendous amount of earned (as opposed to paid) media he has received. Moving into to the general it will be completely different. It will take about $1 billion to run an effective national general election campaign for president. Trump can not self-fund this amount nor can he raise that amount from Republican donors. And if by some chance he does raise the money doesn't that undercut his appeal of not be beholden to the "Establishment"?

Thank you, 7:04 and 7:37 for making some substantive arguments. Here's my problem. I KNOW what Hillary and the Clintons have been, and I KNOW what kind of Executive Branch she will create. BOTH are totally unacceptable, in my view.

I do agree, the party registration issue in bigger states with urban populations give her an advantage. She's just NO good. Where do I go to read about all of her accomplishments, her special qualities, etc.? We don't seem to hear about her unique abilities, her independence from special interest groups, etc.

Citizens don't need to simply roll over and accept this individual as President simply because there are more Democrats than Republicans. That means our party system and elections are OVER. No thanks.

I believe Hillary will continue down the path of globalism. That represents the death of this nation. You won't read in American media about Obama's remarks in Britain last week in support of the failing European Union. The London Daily Mail provided excerpts of his remarks. He said, the concept of sovereignty and individual nations is in the past. Really? In other words, American governance by OUR people, for OUR people is diminished. Welcome to a North American Union. A blended governance combining America, Canada, and that garden spot known as Mexico.

I feel certain Hillary will follow the Obama plan, and she IS a dishonest chameleon. You KNOW that's true. We can do better.

This is a PERFECT time for an "America First" philosophy. At least Trump and Cruz speak that way. More so, Trump. Worth a try, rather than just roll over. We've seen enough of that from slugs in Washington.

Fascinating time, this election. I'm a 65 year old, unaffiliated voter who happens to believe we need to HALT going down our current path, if only for a single term. There is nothing to fear with a Trump as President. Our Congress was designed to protect us from any reckless tyranny, if that's what you see.

Oh, wait!

Congress needs a new look, too. This one stinks.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/665870/eu-military-police-carry-out-extremely-worrying-civil-unrest-crisis-training

THIS, readers, is the European Union that's already been formed. A new, international military force to be applied across any of seven nations, to "keep things together."

A similar North American Union is in the pipeline, according to my study. I find this development troubling. Do any of you?

Hillary Clinton represents everything wrong with American politics.

Anonymous said...

Besides being Bill's wife, what are Hillary Clinton's achievements in public life which qualifies her for the presidency?

Try naming one

Anonymous said...

The fact is that even most Democrats really want her as President. She's getting less votes this year than she did in 2008 when she ran against Obama in the primaries. Remember, in 1992 Presidential election Bill only took in 40% of the vote. GHW Bush the incubation lost because Ross Perot the 3rd party candidate took away millions of votes. The Clintons are the most over-rated duet-politicians and no one would have ever heard of Hillary Clinton if it wasn't for Perot.

The DNC set this up so she was basically the only candidate. I mean just who with intelligence can Bernie Sanders seriously? Offering college kids free tuition, paying off their massive student loans and a government job is nothing but a bribe to get their support. Bernie has a rats chance in hell to get Congress even if every member was a Democrat to accept $30 TRILLION in new taxes to pay for all the spending he propose.

Clinton will be defeated in the General Election. Even if she gets 90% of the Hispanic vote, it won't matter. You can tell she's busy already stirring them up against Trump. Did you read about the riots of Mexicans in California the past few days? I'm sure Clinton had a hand in stirring up those rioters, Who else would benefit besides her ?

Other than Hispanics, the voter turnout will be anemic on the Democrat side, especially because the blacks and union folks (the few that are left) don't like her. Whereas Trump is building an unbelievably-large voter base. Anyone ever hear of the "enthusiasm gap"? It certainly applies here.

Anonymous said...

"Clinton will be defeated in the General Election"

Thanks for the laugh of the week! She will take the Hispanic vote, 80% of the black vote, at least 80% of the woman vote, and the vast majority of those with higher education.

The primary Drumpf demographic is poorly educated, angry whites who are looking for a scapegoat to blame all of their lives failings on, because personal responsibility is above them.

Hillary will sweep enough electorals to call the election before the West coast polls close, and the republicans can blame themselves. They carefully crafted this paranoid, angry white person whinefest which set the stage for a bumbling, narcissistic fraud and buffoon like Trump to appear like a messiah.

Americans would be best served by escorting his supporters to the border and trading them for hard working Mexicans.

I forgot Emily's, and that place is less than 100' from my estate. That is homemade ice cream, and people rave about it. The only reason I am not a customer is bc I have become allergic to dairy in recent years.

Downtown manager Stephanie Varone claimed at Council that I am venomous, a cancer and pompous. I would argue that paid cheerleaders like her do more to deter economic development than I ever could. She is injecting herself into government, where she does not belong, because she is concerned about the criticism of corruption. If she really cared about good government, she would try to eradicate the corruption, not me.

I have been around longer than she and will still be here when she moves on. Over my ten years in blogging, I stand up to bad government, whether it is in Allentown or here. I have written 740 stories in which I mention Nazareth in the last 10 years. Most of them are neither positive nor neagative about Nazareth. Nazareth is simply part of the story. My stories about the government have been largely negative because you can't shine shit. Bad government is bad government.

But I'm hard pressed to think of any story, even one, in which I've bashed Nazareth itself. I love what i call Nazareth humor, which is different from the rest of the LV. It is kind of a quiet, biting humor. For the most part, people here are very nice to me, even though I will always be an Auslander. The kids are great. My only criticism of Nazareth people is that, when they drive, they all think they are Mario Andretti. They need to slow down. I do wish more of them took an interest, but that is a criticism I'd make anywhere.

What the heck is going on the the Saucon Valley School District? The new Superintendant is preparing to leave, and is paving the way for a friend to step into the job. This is causing bad feelings among administrators, and many seem poised to leave (all except a certain assistant admin in the elementary school who rarely comes to work and prepares stuff for her side job when she is there). The School Board is is allowing this to happen. That, as well as many detrimental changes to curriculum and class structure which will degrade the quality of education in the district.

@2:07 PM - I take Bernie O'Hare seriously.

Why haven't the voters voted out the corruption? Because those citizens are not fully aware of the level of corruption that exists.

Why did 60% of Allentown voters vote for now convicted City Controller Mary Ellen Koval in the last election?

I voted for Pawlowski twice until I became aware of the corruption in Allentown. I was not fooled a third time.

This kerfuffle over treatment of the flag, while it may be coming from a good place, seems a bit overblown. The US Flag Code is advisory, and while it says that flags that are worn, soiled, or unfit for serving as an emblem for display should be "destroyed in a dignified way," it doesn't actually describe what causes a flag to be soiled or unfit for display. It also does not describe what the proper procedures are for retiring the flag.

http://www.senate.gov/reference/resources/pdf/RL30243.pdf

Bernie O'Hare said...

My take on that matter is that someone witnessed the flag being accidentally dropped. Reimer probably got his back up with Jim Reinhart, and didn't like being told by a mere citizen that he screwed up, which he did. Larry Stoudt, who saw nothing, acted as though he witnessed the entire event. In reality, there would be no kerkuffle had Reimer simply stated, "I am sorry. It was an accident." But as you can see, Nazareth officials hate being questioned. They were looking for Reinhart at the last meeting, too.

Hillary has no achievements .She plays the woman card at every turn for those that oppose her . That's her strategy even though many woman dislike her . Conversely Trump has built a real estate empire and employs thousands of people. From that resume Trump has developed extraordinary leadership skills that can translate into running any major corporation or government for that matter . Trumps personality and aggressive style of communication is what people love or hate . Another issue is the substance of his platform . While criticized for his lack of specificity I believe his platform will become more focused if he receives the republican nomination . Looking at the videos of Trumps California stop this past Friday, he is totally spontaneous, just how can Hillary practice for that? She cannot.

I expect The Don to rip her a new one & shove it down her throat. He will use every off handed quote she has made. Example, we did not loose one life..... I was under sniper fire when I arrived in Bosnia....

She's lost her big lead in the polls over Trump. Most of the current polls have her lead against him down to single digits. Two polls, recent George Washington University poll has him within the margin of error against her at 3 percent. The latest Rasmussen poll has them tied.

This election cycle is beginning to mimic the Carter/Reagan 1980 election. In that election Carter enjoyed a double digit lead over Reagan in the first quarter of 1979 by November though, that lead was gone. Reagan ended up kicking his butt by winning 44 states to Carters 6+DC.

I'm going to make a prediction. if she continues to slip and look vulnerable in the polls against Trump, Obama's Justice Department will be turned loose on her and there will be an indictment. The democrats will attempt to save face....they're not going to let it potentially get to the point of having her get Trumped in the general election. They'll pull out all the stops to prevent that from happening. They'll float a Sanders or even Biden at a late stage in the game.

Agree with 9:05, the appeal of Hillary is slipping, but will it slip enough? From the start, I thought Biden to be the better Democratic candidate, and believe there's a good chance he will yet emerge. The idea of a female American President can wait a little longer. The Clinton reputation is not just LOUSY, but justified. Unfortunately, in today's America, that might not matter.

How do you prepare when the truth hits you upside the head?

How is the media going to defend her?

What will likely happen is that the media will not be able to continue to ignore and obfuscate as they have done in the past. When Trump wins the Republican nomination he will have to double his protection. There is nothing worse than a Liberal with nothing to lose.

Liberals speak and act violence, the evidence is everywhere you look. These riotous demonstrations you saw in California this week against Trump were just the start.

The Clintons are both grifters, at best. Foreign powers have bought influence by donating to the Clinton "Charity". Hard to believe people are that stupid.

@ 10:06 AM-they have never had any creditably over the last 50-100 years.

The medias job, was initially set up to act as the watch dog for the "People". Once, members of the govt figured out they could use the media to spread an agenda, it was game over. Once the media jumped on board, it was game ,set and match. Again, nothing new for both sides of the political spectrum.

Today the media has become a cheerleader for a "cause" and or "causes". The media and the govt should never be in bed together.BUT , this is nothing new.

Do a little research on a term called Journ O List. Its not a conspiracy theory , it is one of the most recent examples of the media forgetting why they(us), have been granted an amazing right called freedom of the press. It is another example, of the media actually is shaping the news, shaping the public opinion based on an agenda, conspiring on how to "do damage control for an elected officials and so on.

Another glaring example of the media being cheerleaders with out having all the facts, is the Ferguson / Mike Brown case.
The media ran with an UNCONFIRMED report that Brown was basically walking down the street and had his hands up and said don't shoot and he was shot.

THAT NEVER EVER ,happened, as confirmed by many investigations , including the US Attorney General and more than a dozen other agencies from the local, state and federal levels. The one consistent fact that came out of these investigations, was that Mike Brown , never had his hands up and said don't shoot. It never happened. If it did, we might have different results for all who were involved.

We actually had national media members on TV ,college presidents , like Penn States, leading the protest. We also had professional sports athletes and teams using their platform to promote a lie. This was done for months. We even had politicians taking to the Senate floor to demonstrate this lie. We had politicians stand on the steps of the US Capital and with this lie.

THEN...Not one single member of that national TVs morning and national news teams ever came back on air to apologize to the police officer, the mostly minority, business owners, who watched their businesses burn to the ground, the cops and browns families, the community, the state, the people, or the country, after this incident, was proven to be a crock of shit.
Not one person, TV station, newspaper, politicians , entertainer, athlete, college , college professors, in the public eye ,ever apologized after the facts came out.

Who led the charge , the media, the athletes, entertainers, and the politicians.
In fact once the facts came out , we learned that Brown literally attacked the police officer. Brown jumped in the the cops open window, punched the cop in the face and most important, reached for the cops gun, as reported by numerous witnesses , who were under oath, when the they gave the statement. This is a perfect example of the media getting it wrong.

A free media, that functions with out any type of govt interference, bias, meddling, cheer leading is sadly, not what we have today and is not what we have had in decades. The real question is why is the media not trusted and why do the conduct themselves like this. As always, follow the money on both sides

1:25 -

You deserve credit for making such a well-written observation. Ethical reporting is difficult to find. Both the Morning Call and Express Times have failed us from time to time. We have seen deception covering topics like Allentown politics, the NIZ, public education, the economy, and now the election of our next President.

I'm sure replacing local ownership with mega-corporate puppet-masters has led to this. I have some sympathy for lower-tier employees forced to communicate this way.

@1:25 you asked "...The real question is why is the media not trusted and why do the conduct themselves like this. As always, follow the money on both sides..."

The answer to that question is simple. If Hillary Clinton were a Republican, do you think she would be running for President? Or be treated like Richard Nixon was?

The Clintons are the O.J. Simpsons of American politics, although O.J. was likeable.

My greatest source of apprehension about her is her apparent attitude that laws apply differently to her versus the rest of the country. Truly dangerous.
