LV Tea Party Displays Both Xenophobia and Religious Intolerance

How do we know these aren't ISIS fighters in disguise?
Be Afraid! Be very afraid! The latest missive from the Lehigh Valley Tea Party warns us that Syrian Muslims, possibly ISIS fighters in disguise, are coming to Allentown. This latest epistle calls on all God-fearing red-blooded Amerikans to descend on St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Allentown. No word on whether they'll be burning crosses for the occasion.  Here's the "Call to Action"

Hundreds of Syrian refugees will be relocated to the Lehigh Valley this year. We have been led to believe that they are Christians escaping ISIS, but indications are that they are in fact, almost all Muslim.

Numerous Christian organizations in the Valley are jumping at the chance to receive federal dollars to provide relocation services.

Will you join us on Wednesday morning to attend a meeting at St. Peter's Lutheran Church to ask questions about who these people are, how we know that they are not ISIS fighters, and where they will end up?

Date and Time: Wednesday October 14, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Location: St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1993 Hanover Ave., Allentown

If you cannot attend, please call Senator Toomey's office (610) 434-1444 and tell him to stop the import of Muslim refugees.

Thank you...

PS: Please show strength and resolve in your questions, while remaining professional in your presentation.

Well, that is pretty much all they have to offer... Some of the members are already claiming Kidspeace is clearing out American kids to make room for them.

It's appalling that in an age where so much real information can be found at your fingertips, people choose to be uninformed.

How sadly xenophobic. What would Jesus do? Would he ask if you are a Muslim before feeding you? We are a country with Freedom of Religion, and simple bigotry will not change that.

I'm not concerned about any person's politics anymore. We have all stripes, from libertarian and tea party to progressive in our Let's Build the New Allentown Together coalition. For several years I have become convinced that big money and pay to play of all kinds must be eliminated before we can realistically talk meaningfully between ourselves and speak truth to power or deal with any other important issue with confidence that our views will even be considered. Right now across the country people don't rule. They can voice their opinions but as of now the crony capitalists/fat cats will still control the agenda. That's my opinion but it forms the only basis for the social contract that binds our very disparate group, Let's Build the New Allentown Together.

Also please advise the wacko republican right to lobby Toomey to change the inscription written on the base of the statue of liberty. After watching the debate last night the Dems are headed for another 8 years. Even heard rumor that if a dem socialist should be the winner plans are afoot to build a trump tower camp in waco texas called jim jones mecca international.

I don't consider xenophobia or religious intolerance as a "person's politics." I consider it xenophobia and religious intolerance. i hace no problem with people saying the government shouldn't spend a dime on anything, but do have a problem with this kind of crap.

If the tea party is screaming about disasters, terrorism, or other scary things; there must be an election coming. Nothing turns out the base like fear.

Are these Syrian Christians or a mass inflow of more fuel to add to the fire of The Religion of Peace?

Where are they going to stay, and what will they do?

While I have empathy for them, i do not trust opening our country to them. We will live to regret this move.

The US imigration system is designed to give preference to people who have relatives in the US who commit to serve as sponsors to help the immigrants. Since there are so many Syrian-American families in Lehigh County, it is logical that some refugees should come here. Most of the Syrian-Americans in Lehigh County are Christian, as far as I know.

I guess they said the same about the Italians, Jews, and Africans [when we wanted equality and equal treatment]. The more things change the more things change the same. Especially thought processes even though people are denial. Smh...

This 'migration' from Islamic lands has all the earmarks of a Trojan Horse.
By the way, the inscription on the Statue of Liberty does not say 'give me your terrorists..."
These people are fleeing from lands where there are thousands of square miles of open spaces. Where the hell is the UN in all of this? Why doesn't that august body send in a joint force to establish safe zones for these refugees.
And finally, how come when over the past year or so when Christians were being slaughtered there was no international movement to accept them into western lands? At least the Vatican prayed for them. Obama and the UN were not heard from.

Bernie O'Hare said...

These people are fleeing the terrorists, but your xenophobia is duly noted There are many similarities between the Tea Party and the Civil War era Know Nothings, who hated the Irish and their religion. History repeats itself.

When you can't defend your xenophobia and religious intolerance, attack the person who points it out. But do it anonymously.

Censorship is called for here.
You don't have to put up with this.

I guess we all forget the stupidity of fear surrounding the influx of German immigrants before and after WW1 and the treatment of american citizens of Japanese descent during WW2

Bernie O'Hare said...

Guy, To say nothing of the way Chinese were treated. They are the only ethnic group to have ever been officially discriminated against by the United States government.

Refugee's who have first preference in the current program the Church group is speaking of are the ones who have no relatives in the U.S. and face persecution back home. Syrians who have relatives in the U.S have to utilize a different program to get in and that is slower... Each refugee coming in is given a one time stipend of something like $975 which really has to last three months. Refugees with families have a better time with rent because they can pool together their money. But after three months the Church group really pushes to find a job for them.

The Syrians I know living in my area have until now supported Assad because even though he is a dictator he did go out and attack Christians ... He generally left them alone ...But the rebel and especially ISIS do give the Christians in Syria who are mainly Orthodox Christians a bad time ...

I must restate a paragraph which I can't edit and I thought I put a negative in and it didn't appear ..

The Syrians I know living in my area until now have supported Assad because even though he is a dictator he did not go out and purposely attack Christians. He generally left them alone. But the rebel Syrians mainly Moslems and ISIS do give the Christians in Syria who are mainly Orthodox Christian a bad time ... The truth is, in many Islamic Countries Christians have to pay a special fee to do business and receive some form of protection ... Without paying this fee --- Pay to Play --- they are history.

Robert Trotner said...

I don't agree with their post on this issue. I just applaud their support in the fight against corruption in Allentown.

Bernie O'Hare said...

Dennis, I am aware that Allentown's Syrian community supports Assad, proimarily bc of his religious tolerance. The persons fleeing Syria are refugees who have no place to live, largley bc of Assad and ISIS.

Many Islamic countries are theocracies. When you come down to it, England is a theocracy with a recognized Church. Democracy is rare in the Middle East. Israel allows members of all faiths to vote and hold office. Arabic countries like Jordan and Lebanon have traditionally accorded a high level of freedom to Christians. Lebanon has had Christians in its government, and I believe that is so in Jordan as well. But in other countries, discrimination exists. I am no expert on this topic and defer to MM and others who are more knowledgable.

Anon 8;28' Mr. Phillips protesting children at Kids Peace.'--Out of context -look at why that was done ,I believe you shall find that Mr. Phillips is not adverse to unfortunate children what so ever, but quite the opposite. This man will not attempt to defend himself on this media, if I'M right, he hopes that eventually a critic that once jumped to conclusions about his character of an event, will realize their own correction . He is a thinker and uses strategy. Look over the issue and rethink now months later what he was doing.
