Gary Asteak Down on the Farm

Gary Astteak, down on the farm.
You may think of him as a flamboyant criminal defense attorney, known to wear cowboy boots and Stetsons in court. Others know him as a brilliant municipal solicitor who provided legal advice to Township Supervisors when they still conducted their meetings in German. But did you know that Gary Asteak is also a farmer? He and his wife own and operate Filetown Farms in Bushkill Township. And Asteak is walking on air this week because their produce won blue ribbons at the prestigious Plainfield Farmers' Fair.

At this time last year, Gary Asteak was ripping a Nazareth police officer to shreds in what has become known as StickerGate. He, Phil Lauer and Mark Minotti made up a Northampton County Legal Defense Dream Team who defended the infamous Sticker Gang. Their despicable crime, you might recall, was placing tiny FT ("Fire Trachta") stickers throughout the tiny borough. Chief Thomas Trachta, never known for a sense of humor, had the trio perp-walked in front of news reporters. They dropped their prom coverage for the story. He even tried to involve the feds. Of course the trio was acquitted, Trachta who had refused to shake hands with Asteak, was admonished to "suck it up cupcake."

Blue ribbon kale
But one thing Asteak never mentioned is his interest in farming.

"All I have to do is battle nature," he tells me, which has to be a little harder than his wars with police chiefs

He started out as a beekeeper, and is now up to four hives. They never sting him.

"Professional courtesy," he tells me.

He also has begun raising free-range heritage chickens, along with one hen-pecked bantam rooster. His family was in the poultry business for three generations, so I suspect Gary knows his chickens.

But his favorite is the garden. His wife gets the credit for the blue ribbon kohlrabi, which is great in salads and slaws. He gets the prize for kale, which the Irish mash with potatoes to make Colcannon.
This is a kohlrabi.

Chief cup cake is a very evil person and his lil side kick couldn't win a parking ticket hearing. They both have ruined Nazareth and brought shame on the good Officers working there to the point most have quit or are in the process. Chief cup cake will never admit, but his personal computer is set the Bernie's page because he is more focused on a blog then supervising and running a proper Police force, his actions have shown that along with the pile of law suits. I truly feel bad for the tax payers and good Officers being abused by cup cakes personal agendas. And yes cup cake you can go to church and pretend to be a good catholic, so did the Mafia, your not fooling anyone!!! Your day is coming and the dream team will be taking you to the cleaners, will the half wit council and mayor stand behind you when their personal effects are up for grabs. Cup cake I hope this consumes your day because your nothing more than a turd like the one left on your door step. Swallow that one.

That is a bodacious kale-thingie. The other one is a space alien.

Cool antique tractor.

I admire Mr. Asteak's acuity as a defense attorney, too.

anon 12:36, give it arrest. Even druggie check stealers catch a lucky break now and then.

-----I remember him in preliminary hearings in Easton , learned a lot watching him in old days . Even Judge Jackie has a story ,well before any 'cupcakes'.

Thank you Bernie for writing this story.... It is definitely a cool story. To see the side of a person all know and fear and respect... a true professional to his profession...

When I see Gary around in different circles- the song by Sinatra.. " I did it my way" comes to mind in his life and profession..

A personal note to Gary.... I have every one of your Xmas cards... is this a tempting thought of what this years is going to be?

PS.. Don't drink the water up here....

That's a nice looking head of kale, if that is what you call it. You're so prolific, Bernie. Nice human interest story, but it still attracted some illiterate malcontent. 12:36AM missed her shot of midnight cocoa.

anon 12:36 is not the WE woman, it is obviously one of the sticker goons from Nazareth. Right about the illiterate malcontent, just the wrong crazy person.

Gary is just one of several beekeeper attorneys in the LV. Others include the lawyer you've mentioned above.
