NorCo: Deal Reached With Corrections Officers

Northampton County Executive John Brown has reportedly an agreement with the AFSCME bargaining unit that represents corrections officers. That matter is being added to tomorrow night's agenda for approval, along with two other contracts where arbitration dictated what amounts to a 14% increase in salary over the next three years.

The agreement with corrections officers calls for a 4% increase this year, a step increase in 2016 (4.5%), and 2% in 2017.

Not that he had a choice. It was binding arbitration. To be specific anyone not at top rate got a five percent step in 2016 and top rate officers were frozen with a 1200 dollar "bonus." As for this year all got four percent effective July 1st with no retro. All got two percent in 2017 and we are all subjected to his awesome health care plan starting in 2016. Yet attorney Heimbach symbolically "dissented" at the award, crying poverty. Make a point to find out what he dished out in overtime at year's end Bernie because we easily cover at least 100 extra shifts per WEEK with no end in sight. His refusal to keep us staffed up is creating an unsafe and tense atmosphere in here, especially as the summer heats up. But he can't break us, not that he cares. His run (or reign if you will) is coming to a close with each passing day. When I voted in the primary I couldn't help but be amused as members of his own party voiced their disgust in his "leadership." He and his cronies are living on borrowed time. Again I would love to out myself but for now must lay low. One day...soon.

The Agenda for tomorrow's council meeting is out for public review. Wonder why council has number seven under new business instead of old? Clearly someone is back stepping and council is allowing it. Look at the dates of these promotions, look what else was going on in the county. Can't claim county doesn't have money and need to increase costs of health benefits including deductibles while increasing wages of some. Keep looking, many more increases of wages that were done - before council. Absurd!

Good for them, for the clerical staff for probation. Good for those who got 9% to 30% increases. Great for Brown and his buddies. Good for union who continue to enjoy good health care. Good for county council for allowing all of the inequality flurish throughout the county. If only there was a real understanding of the inequalities. If the controller looked into this, maybe if human resources did a full investigation. Will council ask questions? Will anyone stand up and do the right thing? The *right thing* has been lost for so long. What a sad state of affairs. Pathetic.

Pathetic and dangerous.Corrections officer safety has been co-opted for the sake of dollars saved. Brown is a dictator and an evil one at that. The man needs a mental evaluation.
