NorCo Council Honors 93 YO Court Security Officer

Last Thursday before their meeting got under way, Northampton County Council took time to honor a 93 year old court security officer. Joseph T. Meischeid, who lives in Palmer Township, was recognized for his 23 years of service. He still puts in 24 hours per week.

How did this guy get a county job at 70 years old? Who does he work for?

I believe his is a job now handled by the sheriff's department.

This post is very nice until you ask yourself what security a 93-year old is capable of delivering. I'm certain he's a lovely man. Should taxpayers being subsidizing his daycare, however?

The number of deputy sheriffs who were there to see him honored is a testament to what you say. How unfortunate that some people hold his age against him. It's the last acceptable prejudice.

He is assigned to the court mediation office where he greets clients, make sure appointments are ready and serves as a calming force to troubled situations. He has armed deputies nearby if needed. But his role is more that of a helpful agent of the court who can help de-escalate hostilities in that office. He is very effective in this role. He deserves admiration, not ridicule for working long beyond most of the population is dead!

People are pathetic. Why attack a man who has worked all of his life and dedicated 23 years to the County? At least northampton county did something right in honoring an employee for their service. Good for this man. A well deserved honor.

Don't give up on your fellow man. Only a handful of hateful people make those comments. We all now who they are.
