Matt Munsey is New NorCo Dem Chair

By a 76-63 vote, Matt Munsey defeated Walt Garvin this evening in the race for Northampton County Democratic Chair. I skipped the meeting at the courthouse, though it was open to the public, for a basketball game.

I believe these races are little more than ego trips, and that county parties are irrelevant to candidates who want to win. But according to one of my friends, they can hurt you with divisive primary races.

Bernie with Jim Gregory's release date is coming up and when he gets out would you expect the Dems to welcome him back into the fold?

Lee Snover just had GOP committee campaign signs throughout Norco, so obviously these elections can matter, even though I agree that a candidate with money and/or message can win the day in individual elections.

The Norco Dems hold such a numerical advantage, and yet the GOP dominates Norco elections. FAILURE. I tend to agree with a poster on a previous LVR dialogue, that Norco Dem events under Garvin and company were much more about
"drinking and bullshitting" with the echo chamber than GOTV. So, I say give Muncey a chance. He screwed up trying to be nice guy and putting out O'Donnell petitions at an event that may have helped him get enough signatures to be on the ballot, but otherwise has been more productive than you give him credit for in getting out the vote.

But I could be wrong because I don't know who is behind him. If its the likes of Barron, Charles!, or McClure/Kraft, then he will fall to the Norco GOP--infighting and all. If he is genuine then perhaps we have a chance.

Kathy, He can change his party to whatever he wants.

I tend to agree. I had an opportunity to personally speak with candidate (and hopefully future Governor) Tom Wolf, and warned him of how confident the NorCo Dems felt last year after the primary that it was going to be such "a big Democratic year", only to fall to the GOP minority.

The only poll that counts is the one election day.... ask Eric Cantor(R) about it. Norco/PA Dems ignore current poll numbers. It is 0-0. Who will win on election day?? If experience repeats I would say, unfortunately, the wrong Tom. Do not assume! As they say, if you assume you only make "an ASS out of U and ME."

Ovem,

Actually, the person who ignited the flame under many former Garvin supporters is O'Donnell's wife. She blamed Garvin that her husband finished dead last, when she should have been asking herself why he was even running.

Bernie, 12:55, I will admit it is hearsay, but I had heard that Muncey had innocently pushed the petitions of O'Donnell (trying to be a team player) at an event that may have helped O'D get the numbers he needed to get on the ballot in the first place. Callahan owns his own campaign. However, the Council elections were hurt from a combination of Dem hubris, as well as the antics of McClure/Kraft/Dertinger in tackling from behind. If you want to be a "player" in the future of your party, you don't contribute to the team loss.

Live and learn.

But, compared to Garvin... just google Norco Dems vs GOP. Which has a more current website? not Garvin.

Ovem, you may rest assured that I have never been a Walt Garvin fan. I am also no fan of OFA.

Matt is a great guy and will be a success based on past performance. He may signal the end of the Long Dem's like Barron, Kraft Dertinger and McClure. Hopefully those so-called "new young Dem's" will become old Dem's that are just part of a bad past.

We need smart and good people in the committee not a bunch of backslappers who get off on their own campaigns and little ego trips.

Anon 3:31, it was guys like Dertinger and McClure that put Munsey over the top. They supported him and got their supporters to support him. Munsey, they feel, will be their puppet.

9:58 You are correct! Munsey is now their new BOBBLEHEAD! Now Leslie Altieri and Powell have to win in November because Munsey guaranteed the party he can deliver them! BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Alteri is a professional candidate and will again be destroyed in November. Maybe she will trot out her blind husband some more for the sympathy vote.

I doubt Matt will be anyone's puppet. he will however be more than a speechmaking glad hander.

Hope former Allentown mayor Bill Heydt wins the Republican Chair for Lehigh County, just got my letter in the mail today from him wishing to have my vote

There is pressure on Munsey to push Werner for county executive. God help us either McClure or Werner. I guess
Brown is safe for two terms.

Im hoping Scott A mobilizes the gang at least one more time along with Kim B and Kay P to get the city ward leaders to support Bill in his effort to become the new LC chair.
