Meet Northampton County's HAL

"I wonder what happens if I push this button?" asks Peg Ferraro, The rotunda popped open and an ICBM was launched at Lehigh County.
"How may I server you?" asks Al Jordon
At this time last year, Northampton County's sensitive computer room - the nerve center of all County operations, was in complete disarray. Severs and switches were threatened by failing air conditioners, roof leaks and even invading birds and vermin. County Council quickly appropriated $650,000 in this year's budget to fix the problem.

The County's phone system will soon run through these boxes
Before the May 15 Council meeting, like a proud father, Director of Information Services Al Jordan took everyone on tours of the renovated room. It was like stepping into a space shuttle, with thousands of blinking lights and blowers keeping strict control of the temperature.

The only problem was getting out.

"Open the doors, HAL," ordered Jordan at the end of the tour.

"I'm afraid I can't do that, Al," answered HAL.

We had to sacrifice Ken Kraft. May he rest in peace.

Is the computer related to peg Ferraro?

Pegasus is photogenic, sports nice threads, and keeps a tone figure deep into her later years. If her daughter looks anything like her then nepotism is fine by me.

Bernie - the ncpub.org website maps feature crashes constantly, and after hours and on weekends there is no one around to fix it. If you click "Map" and other links on a property listing, you get "Oops, there was a problem. It has been logged and will be reported." Then on Monday morning it is working again. This is literally a constant problem. This new equipment has not fixed the problem. Maybe you can find out what is up (down) with that?

I know ncpub is on its way out and there is a new site for maps being developed. It is in operation at the courthouse. Let me check into this for you.

The County doesn't host ncpub.org. You might want to contact the actual source of the issue instead of assuming it is the County, Don.

Actually, it at least was a county site.
