NorCo Sheriff Will Seek More Personnel

Sheriff Miller with department accreditation
Both this blog and The Express Times have disclosed that the Northampton County Sheriff's office, which has been overwhelmed by concealed carry permit applications, has stopped checking references. And at yesterday's Personnel Committee hearing, Council President John Cusick accepted at least some of the responsibility.

He pointed out that Sheriff Randy Miller had asked for additional staff last year, but his request was shelved by Council because of a pending contract with the Deputy Sheriffs' union. Although that contract was approved several months ago, no requests for additional staff have come from the Stoffa administration, noted Cusick.

They're coming.

Director of Administration Tom Harp told Cusick that he and Sheriff Miller have had several meetings concerning the staffing, and a proposal will be forwarded next month with a budget amendment.

The sheriff should be investigated for his depts handling of the permits. Where is the DA? This county is like Hazzard County from the ol Dukes of Hazzard show.

Kathleen Kane needs to be made aware of all this and come in and straighten it out.

I am pissed at the Sheriff for scamming the public. Why aren't you going after the sheriff? He scammed every person who filed for a "Right to Carry Permit" out of 20 dollars. How many people did he scam? He didn't do the background checks. He took the money and put it in his budget. He ran a scam. He never told his boss Stoffa. He instead took the fees and scammed the public. Why isn't he charged for not doing his job. He should be on the hot seat. He scammed us out of money by accepting a fee and not providing the service. He mis-represented a vital public service and certainly violated state laws. Why isn't he being charged. I want my piece of flesh. Only four people read this article on your Blog. They don't understand if a criminal filed for a gun permit in Northampton county he was given one because the sheriff thought it more important to use his manpower somewhere else. This comment deserves to be aired. Not hidden here where people don't comprehend what has happened. This guy screwed up Royal and as long as they have someone to blame for uncovering this debacle the sheriff walks away untainted. He did wrong damn it.

10;29 This statement is simply NOT TRUE. The Sheriff has scammed no one. Now, I of all people here watch what goes on and the Sheriff does not take fee's and not provide service. I will assume that you needed someone served and they don't live at the provided address , his job is not to find people for civil work.
