Is It Wrong For a Doctor to Hook Up With a Patient?

A doctor friend of mine is really worked up. He's started going out with one of his patients. He's single, so I don't see the big deal, but he thinks it's wrong. I've tried telling him not to worry, but he's made an appointment to see a psychiatrist.

I'd ask you to give him a call, but he'd like to keep his name off the blogs.

By the way, he's the best veterinarian I ever saw.

Who is the government to tell us who, what and how many to love? We're talking civil rights here.

It's not a crime. You are free to hook up with whomever you want provided they are of consenting age and you are not in Alabama.

However, professional ethics of attorneys make it "unethical" to hook up with a client because, I assume, your ability to give that person advice is compromised and you can very easily get into a sex-for-legal fees trade off which is essentially prostitution.

Not sure if doctors have the same ethical dilemma or not, but one can imagine that writing prescriptions for your spouse or partner, especially controlled substances, could lead to issues, like sex-for-narcotics.

Don't get ahead of the media. They are still working on same sex marriage.

It takes time to build a liberal civil rights political program. Need some Hollywood support followed by the legal rights organizations (ACLU is a must).
