Callahan Runs in Another Race

This one was in honor of Robert Lasso, a Freemansburg police officer gunned down on August 11, 2011, while responding to a disturbance call. Proceeds raised from this 5k, which had 114 participants, will benefit Lasso's widow and his two children. Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan was 50' from the finish line when a referee popped up out of nowhere, and ejected him.

Yea, because he just happened to be at the right place at the right time and everybody did everything for him... and, he jumped into the race 300' from the finish line! GR

Callahan ran this race last year, too, beating me.

Who was the referee that ejected Callahan from the race? What does the correct answer win?

It's nice you made up with John after the congressional race in 2010. John is a good guy.

JC is a good man. much better than either of the two weak kneed followers that will come after him. Bethlum is going backwards right into the toilet with either of the wannabees. Let's pray that in 4 years there will be better options if there's anything left to run for

I just got today's mail...a flier from Callahan and one from Reibman. FYI if you did not already know, Reibman is using using your past reporting against Callahan. Callahan's mailer was a positive (re)introduction of himself to NorCo voters.

Should be interesting the next month, as I am sure the gloves are coming off, and brass knuckles are going on. Yet, all the Republicans can do is watch...John who?

It wouldn't be the first race he was thrown out of. Or the first town, city, state, etc.

I did not know that, but if they have to resort to a bottom feeding blogger to make a point, they must be desperate.

My attitude towards Callahan ha changed, largely bc he has changed. He is one of those people who can learn. He managed to turn deficits into surpluses. He became transparent, and actually reached out. So those mailers referring to my blog will ultimately help Callahan, at least to those few voters who actually check it out.

Once again, this foot race has nothing to do with a man ability to run this county. HOWEVER, If some one JUMPED IN to give the appearance that they ran the foot race , that is an Integrity violation that real runners don't do ---and, might be an early warning of political events to show up as the result. Insignificant stuff does count. This position should be held to the highest standard of CHARACTER.

Callahan did something that no other Executive candidate ever did. He ran in a race and for a good cause too. He helped raise money for a police officers family and memory. That is commendable not condemable. My hat off to Callahan for taking the time to prmote this good deed and getting sponsors for a good cause.

He did it last year, as did Willie Reynolds and John Morganelli. Callahan kidded me that I was too intimidated to race him this year. Actually, I got there about 5 minutes too late to register, having overslept. I fully intended to kick his ass this year.

I did not think of this when I wrote this post yesterday, but this race was run just 6 days after the Boston tragedy. In addition to supporting police officers everywhere, Callahan was delivering another message. Life must go on and we can't let assholes dissuade us from living a full life, or they win.

Before Callahan indicated any interest in running for Congress he was barely on the radar of this blog. If mentioned at all it was in a mostly positive way. For example: "Bethlehem's mayor focuses on governing not fundraising"- a shot at Pawloski

Then in December 2009 when it appeared that Callahan was going to run against Dent  he began to run Dent's and national Republican campaign ads on his blog

A commentator in 2009 was right when he said "readers of this blog should be aware that Lehigh Valley ramblings will cease to be a helpful resource for understanding Bethlehem's  economic situations through the 2010 elections. Until that point it will be Charlie Dent and Shawn Millan's ramblings starring Bernie O'Hare as loyal  stenographer – and operational campaign arm of the Dent  campaign"

He continued his attacks on Callahan until it became clear that Callahan was not going to run for Congress in 2012. Then, again, he was off the radar of this blog until he became a candidate for county executive thereby kicking into gear BO's  penchant for loving anyone who runs against someone he hates

Did you ever wonder why in 2009 in 2010 he was so interested in Bethlehem's zoning hearing board matters and other matters of little interest to his readers prior thereto

1) When Callahan first decided to run for Congress, my initial take was that he was not my first choice. In my view Charlie Dent was and remains an excellent Congressman, and I can't see anyone in the Lehigh Valley who is any better.

2) Callahan brought on campaign staff from the DCCC, and their tactics were to ignore me. They never even acknowledged one email. That's fine but they were also thumbing their noses at my readers. - After the election, Callahan reached out to me. He returned using the guys who helped him when he ran for Mayor.

3) When I began looking closely at Bethlehem finances, I was very unhappy with what I saw. - Callahan, in the two years after that race turned Bethlehem's finances around. They have finished the last two years with healthy surpluses.

4) My coverage of the Bethlehem ZHB has NOTHING to do with Callahan. A ZHB, incidentally, is an independent body that does not answer to anyone It is quasi judicial. I started covering them bc I was assigned that beat by the weekly for which I write. I have come to really enjoy zoning stories. Many of my readers feel the same way. There are numerous little stories and they often tell more about what is going on in a community than you learn from any other source. Your assertion that I began covering them to pave the way for Callahan is sheer nonsense.

Didn't say you were covering Bethlehem to support Callahan. You started covering Bethlehem when you were shilling for Dent 2009/2010 and were fishing for ways to embarrass Callahan. You stopped once it became clear he was not challenging Dent in 2012

Bernie O'Hare said...

I stopped covering Bethlehem? Looks like you don't read this blg.

It is easy enough to search this blog for  posts on  Callahan and anyone can see how ramped  up your interest was in him once he became interested in running for Congress and how much it dropped off once he declined to run again in 2012
I noticed that you don't deny starting to cover Bethlehem when you were shilling for Dent. Or that you were shilling  for Dent
