April is Nat'l County Gov't Month

From NorCo Director of Administration Tom Harp: Northampton County is celebrating National County Government Month (NCGM) during the month of April to highlight county programs and services. The theme for this year’s NCGM is “Smart Justice: Creating Safer Communities.” NCGM is an initiative of the National Association of Counties (NACo). Since 1991 NACo has encouraged counties across the nation to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of counties. The celebration of NCGM is one method in achieving this goal.

During the month of April, there will be displays in the rotunda of the county courthouse in Easton with some information about creating safer communities. Innovative community education programs provided in the Northampton County Jail and at the new West Easton Treatment Center will be highlighted in the rotunda exhibit area. These programs have dramatically reduce recidivism of its graduates, thus helping to create a safer community for all of us. “Northampton County is proud of the programs and services provided to the public,” said County Executive John Stoffa. “I encourage all county residents to take advantage of National County Government Month and learn more about the county.”

NCGM is a great opportunity for the public to take a closer look at what county government does, particularly in the area of justice services. For more information about National County Government Month, contact Camille Bartlett 610-559-3182 or cbartlett@northamptoncounty.org.

I know the do important work (some of the time), but a monthly celebration created by government to celebrate government, and spending money to do so, is a bit much.

Hey Bernie, what is this new deal. Tricia is claiming, "We have officially opened our new blog the 'Truth Seekers'". What the Hell is that all about and who are "we"? Does she have a mouse in her pocket?

It's appropriate that we salute the lazy leviathan of county government during tax deadline month.

The real celebration was to happen in January, but they're just getting around to it this month.

"These programs have dramatically reduce recidivism of its graduates"
...
West Easton hasn't even been in operation long enough for a recidivism study.

Bernie,

Who is that a picture of? Are they the NorCo Sheriffs Department?

Bernie O'Hare said...

No, that is a color guard of the NorCo Corrections Officers, and they are quite impressive.

Bernie,

It might be National County Government month, but it is the opening of baseball season. It is the National American Past-time month!!! See you at the diamond field.

Amen, brother.

Recidivism rate is whatever you want it to be. At a half million plus tax dollars a year spent by the county...you get the idea.
