Did You Know Electricity Rates Have Dropped?

Electricity prices dropped in PA on March 1. PPL, for example, is offering residential users a guaranteed 6.99 cents per kWh through Dec 31 - with no early termination fee.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that your current supplier will not automatically start giving you the lower price. You must contact your current supplier, or, choose a new supplier by going to www.papowerswitch.com.

I'd encourage consumers a plan with no early termination fee (prices are reset every three months) as that allows for "free" switches whenever you can get a better deal.

The fact that consumers must constantly monitor prices and contact their supplier when prices drop (or choose a new supplier) is the most annoying aspect of electricity deregulation in PA.

Would someone in the state House or Senate please sponsor legislation that would simply require suppliers to send an email (or snail mail) to their customers quarterly when prices change. As an example, some customers are currently paying 1.5 cents per kWh or more than the new prices. That's costing consumers $15 for every 1,000 kWh they use. These days, every nickel is important.

I can't imagine any state legislator who would find such legislation onerous.

BTW, this, to me, is a "conservative" (small "c") view of government. I detest waste of any sort. And, paying too much for any product is a waste!

paying too much a waste? like paying union wages when the same quality and productivity can be obtained at a lower proce via non-union labor?
