Reibman Out, Dowd In, at DRJTBC

In addition to its periodic toll hikes, passed with no meaningful notice to the public, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) is very good at inventing jobs for politicians with no place to go. So when Glenn Reibman was defeated for a third term as Northampton County Exec, then Governor Ed Rendell had the Commissioners create a brand new job for Glenn - Director of Policy and Planning. At the time he was hired, in 2006, the job topped out at $99,000.

Now that Republican Tom Corbett is Governor, he's decided to replace Reibman. Inside sources tell me Reibman was allowed to stay long enough to ensure he qualifies for yet another pension, but he's being shoved out of the way to make room for another politician who lost an election bid.

Except this one, like Corbett, is a Republican.

Former Northampton County Council member Mike Dowd, who lost a bid for a fourth term in November, will take over the reins as the DRJTBC's new Director of Policy and Planning. We'll never see him again until a Democrat is elected Governor.

Wow, I thought the Chamber was the eternal fallback position for Dowd. I guess Ianneli has someone who needs a job.

Its a shame. Reibman was a damn good county executive, much better then the one we are stuck with now.

Reibman should run again and bring back corruption--we miss it in Northampton County.

This is rediculous. Dowd has never had to work in is life. He always finds the easy jobs. So ow he leaves the chamber and guess who was hired there to take his place -----his daughter. Don't tell me about Democratsand jobs,,,,,,the R's are so much worse.

Bernie, From your sources, who will e replacing Allentown Councilman Julio Guiriy at DRJBC.

5:12 -

Hopefully no one.

I believe that position was created to enrich Guridy. It shouldn't be used to enrich a Republican.

Either way it's our tax dollars.

Are you seriou sabout Dowd's daughter. Hey Bernie, why leave out that tidbit? HMMM

Wasn't Julio Guridy awarded a do nothing patronage job at the DRJTBC? Maybe they were impressed with his service on Allentown City Council.

Julio might be protected. After all, he speaks three languages.

Rumor has it that Obama is going to appoint Reibman as a "Community Organizer" to run his Lehigh Valley campaign.

As I saw Reverend Dowd leave the January swearing in ceremony at the courthouse in his shiny BMW, I thought to myself what will he do now?
I am relieved he has found gainful employment, however the questions beckon;
WWJD?

Unbelievable! I remember about 20 years ago the DRJTBC was on a path of getting straightened out. Their Comptroller was fired, a commissioner was indicted and new members were assigned to straighten things out. I worked there at the time (1985-1994) and the politics were pretty much gone. There were reforms on the commission - they even took away their phone cards (remember them?) and commissioners weren't allowed to go to more than one conference a year. The hires were still political but the people hired were qualified and had legitimate tasks to perform. It seems like these days when a politician is voted out they end up in a job that is created for themn at the DRJTBC -- and i hear that the employees haven't had a raise in several years. HMMM. i guess they need the money from the workers to pay the ones that have positions with no work.

And if the Chamber hire of his daughter is true --- shame on Tony Iannelli.

Good for Mike. He has always been a gentleman & I'm happy for him.
Now the idea of bringing Glenn back to NC is the most stupid thought I have ever heard! Talk about not doing a thing for the county, it was him. He had everyone doing his work for him. Capital JERK!!!!!

John Stoffa, my but you are bitter.

Come on people, look at the picture.
"Dr. Evil". I mean he is a dead ringer. Where is Mike Meyers, Dowd could be a stunt double.

Shagadelic Baby! Yeahhh!! How old is this dude anyway? isn't it time to hang it up?

Now Dowd is as scummy as Reibman. Wow. Politics sucks. Grind up all the DRJTBC jerks and use the mash to fill one of the potholes they never get to.

I beleive Dowd is around 75 years old.

I have been told that this is not a true story. it was stated that Glenn Reibman has not lost his job at DRJTBC. May want to double check.

Bernie O'Hare said...

I believe this story is accurate, having heard it independently from two different and reliable sources. I will check.

knowing the workings of politics in this valley both ar eprobably true -- Reibman is niot getting fired and Dowd is getting hired.

So tell me another thing -- will Dowd also have the liberty to work in the I-78 office or will he have to go to Morrisville headquarters like all others? These are not only political hires they are given the perk of working in the district they live in. How nice for them????
