Bethlehem Police Chide Media In Andretti Case

Bloggers are regularly accused of jumping the gun, and in my case, it's sometimes true. Because this is an interactive site, readers can tell me I'm dead wrong about something almost as soon as I publish. The mainstream media jumps the gun, too, and recently did so with a report that a report about Indy race car driver Marco Andretti.

CBS News, among others, had claimed that Marco drove through the gate of a municiapl parking garage, instead of paying the fee.

In their report clearing the grandson of Nazareth racing legend Mario Andretti, Bethlehem Police take a little shot at the media.
"Local media outlets began calling the department and were told that the matter was an open investigation. It is the department’s procedure not to comment on open investigations. Nevertheless, some local media outlets published reports of the incident."

I thought the same thing since Andretti denied getting out of his car and police said they had video they intended to review. Police cleared Andretti on Friday. Based on reports, the individual involved also contacted the PD on Friday. It appears this was long enough time to get the story correct the first time before going to print for the Saturday edition.

We all know the BPD would never bury an investigation or help out an influential person.

Sadly Marco has more press locally over a false story, then the race he actually won in the IZOD IndyCar Series last season in Iowa.

Add to that, the Iowa race was on Versus then a property of Comcast based in Philly. Yet crickets. Then this gets his name all over the local media market.

Spike, that's because the Morning Call is wasting space on feature articles like announcing that the Sands is expanding an employee parking lot. It amounts to nothing more than free advertisement at the expense of other local news.
