Essex County Site of New Federal Detention Center

After taking a lot of heat from Slate Belt NIMBYs opposed to a private detention center for illegal immigrants, Northampton County Council changed course in November, withdrawing even its limited support.

Federal officials have now decided to do business with Essex County, N.J.

The illegal alien jail debacle is known in the Slate Belt as the Great Angle Folly.

Good. When they catch em in Newark and the Oranges, they can keep the trash in their state.

I think NorCo should become a "Sanctuary County." More faces of color in the Slate Belt would be funny.

What's so funny about peace, love and understanding? What color is your face funny man? Go pick on your own neighbors and check out a mirror before you start throwing stuff at the SB community. I resent your remarks.

Dave, There's a lot of bigotry out there, and it comes especially from people who are convinced they are better than you. They will pat themselves on the back for referring to minorities as persons of color, and then trash the entire slate belt. They also don't like the fact that you select your own council member.

Their own council member has made anti-Semitic remarks. His popularity indicates he represents well the views of his constituents. If it quacks like a duck ...

The real crime here is the waste of federal tax dollars to feed te bloated coffers of the the unnamed private prison company.

Where is the tea bagger outrage about government waste??

Don't resolve the immigration problem. Build a structure instead and bilk the federal treasury for the next 20 years.
At least Northampton County wont have the inevitable headlines - Detainee beaten to death while indifferent private prison guards look the other way. Lawsuit to follow.

BO, I read they NJ.com report on this and it states that Pennsylvania's Pike and York Counties also submitted bids. That is factual info which is to the contrary to what was reported in Northampton county. I realize that N.C. is no longer a part of this process, hence its omission, but if memory serves me correctly, I thought it was stated that Geo contacted the county. Seems to me that NJ.com's report states all the other counties(Essex, Pike, and York) submitted bids so it also seems factual that Northampton county did the same. can you explain for me why all the other counties willingly bid and we are the only one that was "contacted"?

In an effort to be amusing on a talk radio show, Angle did make some insensitive remarks, with respect to both blacks and Jews. He was slow to apologize for them as well bc he meant no harm, but they were insensitive. Angle has had rabbis deliver the opening prayer. He is a member of the NAACP. I've seen nothing from him to indicate that he is prejudiced in any way, but think many of the people who condemn him, like you, have biases of your own. You condemn an entire region of NC based on their choice of an elected official. That would be like me condemning Nazareth for elected McClure. It's idiotic and the product of a bigoted mind. It's too bad you're too cowardly to identify yourself. Slate Belt voters should know about people like you and your causes, so they know who to avoid.

So the "fact" that Angle was condemned by both the anti-defamation league and the NAACP is meaningless. I guess they are the bad guys and Angle is a victim. Merry Christmas

Come on now even Ron Angle deserves a Merry Christmas this time of year. If it was good enough for Scrooge it is good enough for Ron!
