Pay to Play Stoffa

In his 2007 year-end campaign finance report, Northampton County Exec John Stoffa reported that he had around $181 in cash and an unpaid campaign debt of $14,500. With that kind of obligation, he had every incentive to do some fundraising, but he neither raised nor spent a dime.

His 2008 year-end report was filed yesterday morning. You can see the whole damn thing on the picture above (Click on it for a bigger image - I redacted his home phone number). Again, he's raised no money. He still owes $14,500 to himself. He now has about $65.

Interestingly, this is NOT a termination report. Is this a clue he's running?

I hope so. His $65 warchest is about $65 more than he'll need to win.

(Blogger's Note: My thanks to AJ Cordi for helping me redact the phone numbers.)

I hear Joe Long is running and has a lot more than $56.00 in the bank. He has run a larger operation than Stoffa in the county, when he was the chair of the UAW at Mack with 10,000 employees. Lookout Stoffa, he'll kick your ass!

O'Hare you are so smug, I hope Stoffa runs. I hope all three run. It is good to have choices despite your hatchet job reports.
Many don't agree with you and think in a three way race Stoffa is last. Even in a two-way.

It is great for government to have competition even if it means you will savage whoever runs against your Fuhrer Stoffa.

"Stoffa has some personal wealth from the time he sold his family farm to developers ?"

This is just a blatant lie, one of many made about Stoffa that always turn out to be false. That allegation was made here, repeatedly and anonymously, in February. I checked into it. The truth is located here. Stoffa was considering selling a piece of land across the road from his house because it was too difficult for him to maintain at age 70. He changed his mind when his soin returned home and agreed to cut the grass.

It was a rididculous false charge. This is really a dirty lie and is actually being repeated after it has already been debunked.

I don't like Stoffa for Exec because of his questionable spending proposals and reversals. I want change.

I think, however, the attempt at financial mudslinging is as weak as it is nasty. Lot's of mud, with admonishments for "somebody" to "investigate" scurrilous charges. The Nazi references provide proper dis-creditation, but the nastiness is still over the top.

In a day when Obama's "change" cabinet is loaded with connected insiders and outright tax cheats, we should not cast aspersions on a guy who's made money legally and doesn't have contributors to pay off.

I'd prefer to attack the Executive on the shortcomings of his record as Executive. He should called upon in the campaign to defend his record.

I get the feeling these attacks are from Ds who must eat their own, because they've already chewed up and spit out most Rs in NorCo.

Not Roy,

Very well said. You must be from Lehigh County.

Actually, no. NorCo here. Not far from you really. And really not Roy. I'd lost faith in him until reading of his Svengali move with the judge's seat. Maybe there's life beyond D switchers and RINOs. I'd prefer to win on issues and a different philosophy; not the crap that's being thrown out.

Not Roy Shuman. Here's an issue for you. The County is being sued in Federal Court because it is alleged that one of Stoffa's Human Services employees is directing business to a company that is allegedly affliated with the employee's wife. Stoffa was purportedly told of this by the County Controller and chose to do nothing about it. You won't see Assad writing about this however.

The MC and ET have both written about it. Before you make these crazy accusations, you really should learn how to read.

But no follow-up. That is the difference between Stoffa nad other Executives. When a story breaks they get Stoffas reaction and that is it. No follow up no hard questions. Assad just asks how far over do you want me to bend.

First you claim the MSM did nothing. Now you admit they ddid, but just didn't write the story the way you would have liked. That's because they are objective and you are very obviously biased.

Vic Mazzioti is the Stoffa treasuruer. Well I guess we see the inkind contribution there. Does he do this on County time?
That is a real ethical bonehead move. Shame.

Man o man, what an asshole you muist be. You must have been really pissed after Stoffa cut off your unemploymenmt. But I think you might qualify for a disability on mental health issues.

Stoffa's finacial report only show that no one supports him not even the "friends" fo the past before he took office they can now see what an embarassment he has been and have decided to either not write him another check or find someone else to support.

Either way in politics money shows support as Obama has just shown us and we can see in Morganelli's and Cunningham's reports which show serious positive support and now as you have shown us Stoffa has none.

No account of the in kind contributions by the Morning call, Easton Express and B.O'Hare. Not to mention the brown bag contributions.
