Blue Coyote Reports: Dent Supports College Opportunity and Affordability Act

From the desk of Blue Coyote: "United States Representative Charlie Dent voted for HR 4137, the College Opportunity and Affordability Act, a bipartisan measure to enable low and middle income American students the opportunity to earn a college degree at an affordable price. The legislation passed the House by a vote of 354-58. If enacted into law, HR 4137 would reauthorize the Higher Education Act for the first time in a decade.“

A detailed account of this much-needed measure is on Blue Coyote's blog.

Bill Hall had enough signatures, but only had a few hundred extra. he was fearful he would not survive a petition challenge.

Anon 10:07, And a nice neutral source, too. Progressive Punch? Dent can be criticized for some of his votes. I've done it myself. After all, he has a record, not vague promises. But you should try and use more neutral sources.

How can a listing of Dent's voting record be anything BUT neutral?

Are you serious? It all depends on the slant of the group assessing the record.

Let me give you an example. Dent initially voted against SCHIP expansion because it was going to have to be funded at the expense of other grants to senior citizens. When that obstacle was removed, Dent voted for the bill.

Now some groups would play on this to say that Dent opposes health care for children, when the truth us that he actually supports it.

For some, it's all a big game.

Any outfit calling itself Progressive Punch will do its best to cast Charlie in a bad light.

The truth is that he is moderately conservative. His thinking is in line with most Democrats and Republicans in this district.

In law school, they preach about "the reasonable man" standard. In deciding whether someone acted negligently, we ask ourselves what a reasonable man would do under those circumstances. Charlie Dent is the closest thing I've ever seen to that elusive "reasonable man."

We could use a few more of those, from either party, especially in government.

That site is a straight listing of his votes. If you set aside their "scorecard" nonsense, it's pretty straight forward.

I am better at this than Charlie Dent.
